School Led Tutoring:

School Based Tutoring

2021-2022

Pupils were identified as at risk of underachieving in their reading through the July 2021 teacher assessments. This was using the National Curriculum word list as the majority of pupils are on whole word reading or symbol recognition.  A few pupils were identified as needing support on their generalised reading skills as assessed by a reading age test or on the school Learning Steps.

Many were pupils who receive Pupil Premium funding.

Pupils were timetabled for individual sessions with staff and various teaching strategies put in place according to individual needs.

All pupils showed good engagement in their learning and a positive attitude to reading.

100% of pupils made good progress.

During the year, if pupils made more than expected progress, the next target was slightly more challenging. Therefore, more pupils made “expected progress” with this more challenging target rather than “exceeded progress”

Pupil Statements

Pupil 3: “I really, really like doing my words and talking to Miss Monika about how I am feeling”.

Pupil 15: “I do my words. I like going because I go by myself.”

Pupil 6: “I like matching my words.”

Pupil 14: “Reading. I like it.”

Pupil 7: “I enjoy playing the game, we match words and pictures and find the sound. When I get 10 smiley faces I get my reward.”

Pupil 5: “I like learning my alphabet and learning to write.   After my hard work with Monika, I get some Pokemon cards.”

Pupil 12: “I like learning my words over there (lodge).”

Covid Catch up Premium

The Government have given schools additional funding to help schools plan for the full return of all pupils.

We have prioritised the funding for:

Play Therapy 1 day per week for 3 terms = £7200

Ipads for home learning £7725 in spring term and £7725 in the summer term (60 ipads) = £15450

Additional support for reading, speaking and listening activities in the summer term = £5000

Impact Statement

During the summer term (2021), teachers set each pupil 3 targets that were identified through our classroom data gathering and attendance data. These targets were set to help pupils bridge gaps in their learning during the Covid period. Additional support staff helped our pupils to meet their end of year targets in English and Communication and in Maths.

2022

During 2022,teachers used the videos that we had produced on Seesaw to enhance pupils learning in the classrooms. Each lesson, small groups of pupils watched the 5 minute piece of teaching on the Ipad and then worked with a support assistant to complete short tasks. The pupils really enjoy seeing teachers on the Ipads and we saw high levels of engagement from pupils in their learning. This has continued throughout the year and helps pupils to engage in learning activities, sometimes without the support of an adult, which helps them to develop their independent learning skills.

Pupils in Years Five and Six have access to personal Ipads. They spend time learning to photograph their own work and commenting on it. Teachers upload activities and research projects for use during class time. Pupils have the opportunity to take their Ipad home at the weekend so that work can be shared with families and comments made. Families enjoy seeing their children's work and pupils continue to dip into school based activities.

By summer 2022, all junior pupils had access to a personal Ipad, which was used in class to enhance learning opportunities, record work and ensure that pupils who were able to, could research topics, using  appropriate Apps (reading, topic, Seesaw) during lesson times.

A number of pupils across the school continued to get some additional support with reading, sound work and also intensive support for behaviour and learning.
