Hello - I'm Catherine Le Roux, the Head teacher at Riverside. Welcome to our wonderful school. We are a primary school for pupils who have special educational needs, including those with social and communication difficulties, autism, speech and language difficulties, and learning difficulties. We currently have 125 pupils spread across our 11 classes for pupils from Reception to Year 6. In 2016 we were graded Outstanding by Ofsted.
We are really proud of our pupils and all that they achieve. We prioritise pupils wellbeing and mental health ensuring that they feel safe and happy. Each day, our pupils spend lots of time outside - we have bikes and scooters available for everyone, as well as safe play areas and our Outdoor Learning Lodge (which is home to our 4 guinea-pigs!) We ensure that pupils have a safe and predictable day through school wide systems such as visual timetables and individual schedules. We provide a communication rich environment, using Makaton, visuals, prompts, choose boards and PECs systems.
We spend lots of time outside practising our skills, learning to work with other pupils, finding out how to play together and developing our interests.
During this lockdown period we are not able to conduct parental visits in the normal way. Please ring the office to request a visit. You will need to wear a mask while on site and we will move around the outside of the classrooms.
Please help to keep our staff and pupils safe by observing social distancing and staying healthy.
